The National Association of Counsel for Children (NACC) is a non-profit child advocacy and professional
membership association. The NACC is dedicated to promoting a justice system wherein every child has his/her
voice heard with the assistance of well-trained, well-resourced independent lawyers resulting in the child’s rights
being protected and needs being met.
General Responsibilities
The Deputy Director is responsible for the day to day operation of NACC Programs, under the supervision of the
Executive Director. The job requires substantive knowledge of juvenile law and management experience.
Specific Responsibilities
The Deputy Director will focus the majority of his or her time on achieving the NACC Program Goals as adopted
by the Board of Director’s in the NACC Strategic Plan. Specifically, these responsibilities include:
• Direct Program activity and special projects, including: maintain Resource Center, produce publications,
plan and execute trainings including the national conference, facilitate Amicus Curiae Program, and direct
policy advocacy initiatives;
• Lead and manage Program staff;
• Prepare and monitor program budgets;
• Direct NACC Child Welfare Law Certification Program – responsible for certification development and
oversight, including: program growth, application review, exam development, and Red Book production.
• Facilitate Board Working Groups and Committees;
• Work with the Executive Director on fund development and visibility matters;
• Support administrative activity;
• Plan and deliver training on juvenile law topics;
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements
The NACC is seeking a self-motivated attorney who is adept at multi-tasking and can successfully promote a
team environment in a small office. The Deputy Director must have at least five (5) years of juvenile law
experience and an understanding of child welfare, juvenile justice, and family law. Preference will be given to
applicants with project management experience. The Deputy Director will be expected to become licensed to
practice law in Colorado. Travel is required.
It is an exciting time to work at the NACC. 2012 marks the beginning of a new five-year Strategic Plan. The
Deputy Director is central to achieving the organization’s mission and has the unique opportunity to participate in
law reform, education, and training on a national level. The NACC is located at the Kempe Children’s Center on
the Anschutz Medication Campus in Aurora, Colorado.
Salary is commensurate with expertise and experience ranging from $65,000 – $75,000. The NACC has excellent
benefits including personal time off; health, dental and life insurance; and eligibility for retirement plans with
employer contributions.
