Killmer, Lane & Newman, LLP is seeking an outstanding associate attorney. This is a high-intensity plaintiff civil rights, employment law and criminal defense law practice, mostly engaged in federal litigation. Practice includes Section 1983 and Title VII cases, as well as federal and state criminal cases including death penalty litigation, both at the trial level and on appeal. We represent five Guantanamo Bay detainees, so ability to obtain a national security clearance is a plus. Demonstrated interest and commitment to one or more of our practice areas is a necessity. Salary is d/o/e, but since we’re a small civil rights firm, do not expect big firm pay scale. Excellent benefits provided. And really righteous work. Please email cover letter and resume to mnewman@kln-law.com
APABA patnered, once again, this year with the Asian Pacific Development Center and completed another successful holiday food drive. APABA met its goal of raising $3,000 for the food drive this year and, as a result, APABA and APDC were able to provide food baskets to 119 needy Asian families during this holiday season! Special thanks to APABA members Chuong Le, Dennis Kaw, Elisa Chen and Fay Matsukage, who volunteered their time on this project, and, in particular, to Darlene Kondo and Lynn Hsu, who have organized our holiday food drive for the past two years.

In October the Asian Pacific American Law Student Associations from both the University of Colorado School of Law and the University of Denver’s Sturm College of Law expressed their gratitude in letters to the Colorado Asian Pacific American Bar Foundation for its 2010-2011 financial support to those student organizations. APABA says thank you to both APALSA organizations for their continued commitment to diversity awareness and support for the Asian Pacific American community.
Due to the year plus efforts of APALSA’s and APABA’s Nicoal Miller, a Rocky Mountain Region for NAPABA’s Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition is soon to be established at the DU Sturm College of Law. Nicoal reports that DU Law and APALSA were well represented at this year’s TTMCC in the Seatle Region, with Sara Tracy-Ruazol and Kristina Hayden both participating. Thank you, Nicoal, for your vision and your leadership!
On September 13, 2010, APABA members sponsored a table at the DU Law Stars event to support and honor our own Fay Matsukage as she received DU’s Outstanding Alumni Award. Fay graduated from the Denver Sturm College of Law in 1979. Upon passing the bar exam in 1980, Matsukage became one of the first Asian-American women attorneys admitted to practice in Colorado. She soon found a niche in corporate and securities law and is currently a partner at the Denver firm Dill Dill Carr Stonbraker & Hutchings. She is a founding member of the Asian Pacific Bar Association of Colorado and has served many professional organizations in leadership roles. In 1999 she accepted the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association’s Trailblazer Award. Congraulations, Fay!!! We are so proud of you and so honored that you continue your work and dedication to this organization!
